Item Girl is a rākṣasi, a shapeshifting demon who must consume human flesh and blood or spoiled food to survive. Her four arms, blue skin, claws, fangs, and tusks have complicated her already-stressful life as a high school drama kid and made her the unlikely face of a burgeoning monstrous identity movement. Now she’s got to master her lineage’s volatile powers alongside practicing for dance recitals and struggling with math homework. Her fearsome appearance, fiery temperament, and unsettling appetite frequently lead the media to question her alignment, and she herself struggles to see a hero in the mirror. But her affection for her family, friends, and girlfriend motivate her to challenge any foe, whether with classical chivalry or the depths of monstrosity.
